Documents and insurance for renting a bike in India
India rewards riders who keep paperwork precise and check the state rules before they leave the city.
What to carry
Rules and rental expectations can vary by state, so ask the owner what police usually request in Goa, Kerala, Rajasthan, Ladakh, or your chosen region.
- Passport, visa copy, and emergency contact.
- National motorcycle licence plus the 1949 IDP for visitors who need it.
- Rental agreement with owner contact and permitted riding area.
- RC, insurance, and PUC copies for the bike.
Before deposit
Use a written deposit and photograph the bike, tyres, luggage rack, helmet, and any crash bars before you leave.
Before the first ride
Before the first ride, check horn, lights, mirrors, brakes, tyre condition, and whether the bike is allowed on your planned route.
